Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day to day accounting
and reporting for a group of communities within the Benchmark
portfolios as well as reviewing month-end close related tasks. The
position is also responsible for the management and mentoring of
the Senior Accountants and Staff Accountants. Additionally, the
role serves as the main point of contact for any financial related
needs for regional business partners, such as the Regional
Directors of Operations (RDO). As the primary financial resource,
the Accounting Supervisor must provide exemplary customer service
both internally and externally. The responsibilities also include
the timely preparation of monthly financial packages, analyzing the
business performance of the communities, and offering knowledgeable
insight to regional personnel. This role is involved in the more
complex areas of financial analysis and serves as an integral
financial resource to the regional teams. PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES Accounting
- Analyze financial trends and historical data to assist with
advising business decisions
- Maintain accounting operational standards by overseeing the
preparation and review of all month end close responsibilities
- Prepare and present regular department trainings to assist with
the continued growth of knowledge and skills within the
department
- Manage and guide the Community Staff Accountants and Community
Senior Accountants, including training new hires and educating
associates on accounting standards and procedures
- Update job knowledge by participating in both internal and
external educational opportunities
- Forge Business Partnership Relationships with regional
personnel within community responsibility cluster
- Provide guidance and assist in all accounting areas
- Maintain an open line of communication between the RDO's
- Coach and support RDO's on monthly financials and opportunities
for business process improvements
- Conduct monthly financial review meetings with each assigned
RDO and the correlating Business Partners
- Prepare, maintain, calculate and report out on monthly
financial packages including income statement, balance sheet,
occupancy, and other reporting documents
- Oversee the creation and enhancement of workpaper purposes,
procedures, and analytics.
- Drive departmental projects and initiatives related to
enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of existing processes
and implementing new processes.
- Coordinate interim and year-end audit work papers for internal
review by Assistant Community Controller and Community Controller
as well as external Auditors
- Review the monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting for a 501c3
charity
- Communicate current performance and future expectations with
investment partners
- Provides financial information, as needed, to internal
Financial Planning & Analysis staff
- Perform ad-hoc analysis and troubleshooting of matters as they
arise. Skills

- Experience with, or ability to become proficient in, accounting
softwareEducation/Experience/Certification
- BS or BA degree in accounting, finance or business from
accredited college or university
- 5-7 years of relevant supervisory Accounting experience or 2-4
years in public accounting in a supervisory role
