APAEP offers a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies to incarcerated individuals. IDSC 4930 is the foundational course in their Interdisciplinary Studies core sequence. The course description is: The thesis option is designed to apply interdisciplinary degree coursework to a senior thesis research project. This option will offer you ongoing opportunities to investigate and integrate your academic areas of concentration, thereby advancing your interdisciplinary research. Working as a single researcher alongside a faculty subject matter expert, you will embark on a phase of scholarship where you will synthesize your learning by addressing a problem or issue that has facets addressed by each of your emphases. You are required to locate a full-time AU faculty member in one of your emphasis areas who will agree to give feedback and direction for your research project NO LATER THAN the first two weeks of the course. Failure to do so will result in your having to withdraw from the course. Throughout the semester, you will work closely with your IDSC instructor as well as your approved faculty mentor/subject matter expert, developing your research and refining your project. You will provide monthly reflective check-ins which detail your progress with your project. Capstone projects will require a 20-page research paper (thesis) and a presentation of your research. You will also curate the projects that you have worked on throughout the IDSC degree program by selecting and entering them into your ePortfolio, which you will submit for evaluation at the end of the semester."The course outcomes for IDSC 4930 are listed below:* Combine professional and/or research experience with academic instruction, focusing on critical, reflective thinking and personal and civic responsibility,* Develop opportunities that increase one's understanding of the community and interdisciplinary issues, and* Integrate both theoretical concepts and practical application into a capstone experience.* The capstone experience will incorporate all areas of the student's interdisciplinary emphases. Students will work to develop a greater understanding of interdisciplinary learning as it applies to personal and professional development.The position requires weekly in-person classroom instruction and attendance at a mandatory teacher-training session prior to the start of the Fall semester. The Auburn Fall 2024 semester is Aug 19-Dec 13.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in an area that is applicable to interdisciplinary work at the time of employment.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness.
  • Evidence of research and publication experience
  • The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment.
