The Auburn University Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry
(DCB) is seeking an Assistant Research Professor for the Detection
Canine Science, Innovation, Technology, and Education (DCSITE)
program.
The Auburn University DCSITE program will serve as the primary
academic resource to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for
expertise in all areas of detection canine sciences. The DCSITE
program will integrate best scientific practices in analytical
chemistry, genetics, genomics, reproduction, veterinary and sports
medicine, olfactory neuroscience, behavior and cognition,
metrology, and engineering to advance detection canine sciences.

The successful candidate will lead the analytical chemistry efforts
in analyzing various target threat analytes, such as explosives,
illicit drugs, bacteria, and viruses by Chromatography-based
separation techniques coupled with mass spectrometry platforms. The
primary responsibility of this position is to engage in original,
professional-level research that is directed toward achieving the
DCSITE program's main goals. The successful candidate will be
responsible for the method development efforts based on previous
experience and comprehensive literature surveys, lead instrument
maintenance, co-mentor research assistants, and write progress
reports, peer-reviewed publications, and proposed plans.

Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry
or a closely related discipline at the time the appointment begins.
Although postdoctoral experience is not required, it is desired.A
demonstrated expertise in gas chromatography-mass spectrometry
(GC-MS) is required, including but not limited to sample
preparation handling different matrices, analysis, and data
interpretation. Experience in liquid chromatography and ion
mobility spectrometry is desired. The ability to work
collaboratively across disciplines, excellent interpersonal,
written communication, and leadership skills, and the ability to
self-direct a research project are required. The successful
candidate must be a citizen of the United States of America.
