GDS Associates, Inc. has an exciting opportunity for a Project
Engineer in the Hi-Line Engineering department. This position will
be a combination of office work and extensive travel to project
sites. Ideal candidate would be in Auburn, AL area.
The Hi-Line Engineering (Hi-Line) department is a distribution and
transmission design group at GDS Associates, Inc. that provides
system design and planning services for electric utilities
throughout the United States. Hi-Line's services include medium
voltage design for overhead pole lines and underground power
systems, system planning and analysis, transmission design,
substation design, system modeling and load flow analysis, and
specialized design services and general consulting services related
to the design, construction, and operation of electric power
systems.
The Project Engineer will assist in the development of long and
short range planning studies for electric utilities. This includes
modeling of electrical distribution systems along with performing
load flows and short circuit analyses. Effective writing skills are
important as the preparation of reports and studies will be
included in this position.
In addition to report preparation, the Project Engineer will assist
Staking Technicians in the field. A Staking Technician designs
medium voltage electric utility distribution facilities for
electric cooperatives and municipal clients. Duties include
specification of pole height/class, pole top assemblies, and guying
assemblies. This position requires the ability to use computerized
staking packages. The Project Engineer will ensure engineering and
construction standards are followed throughout the design,
constructability of the design, and compliance with RUS and NESC
specifications as necessary. This includes the ability to perform
routine calculations on distribution structures and lines. The
Project Engineer will perform field inspections of construction
projects to assure compliance and reports any discrepancies to
their supervisor. Knowledge in property deeds, right-of-way
easements and acquisition will be required. Responsible for
interfacing with landowners to obtain easements and/or permission
for the construction of the electric facilities.
