CNC Programmer to join our team in Birmingham, Alabama. PURPOSE OF
POSITION Reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, the
CNC Programmer is responsible for writing CNC Programmers, keep up
with tool inventory and work with operators for feedback and edits.
Task and Responsibilities: SAFETY: Make sure all programs operate
in a manner that keeps all employees safe. Comply with all
applicable safety policies and regulations, especially in
manufacturing areas. QUALITY: Maintains the tool system for
stocking, tracking, usage and ordering of hand tools, carbide
inserts and other small consumable tooling for the shop floor. Make
sure all programs create a quality product that meets all
tolerances. Work with QA and production to ensure first article
proof run is complete and within tolerances. Assists maintenance
staff with installation verification, and commissioning of
machinery. ON-TIME DELIVERY: Programs should be issued in a timely
manner and in advance of production schedule needs. Maintain the
system to control all CNC programs to aid in the manufacture of
recurring parts. COST: Research processes and present ideas to
result in the most efficient and cost-effective manufacturing
methods and selection of appropriate cutting tools. Monitor
operations on machines to assure that the proper tooling, cutters,
and cutting speeds are being utilized. Reduces machining costs by
the implementation of improved tooling, methods, and speeds.
PEOPLE: Support employees with CNC program questions and issues,
operator assistance and tooling issues. Aid in training of CNC
Operators. Liaison with external customers with tooling or other
issues. Cooperates and interacts with all levels of personnel with
a teamwork approach. Create and maintain machine backups.
ENVIRONMENTAL: Adhere to Nortrak's Environmental Procedures,
Practices and Policies. Other duties as assigned. JOB REQUIREMENTS:
A college degree in manufacturing technology or programming is
recommended. In lieu of formal education, a minimum of 5 years of
programming experience is required. At least 5 years of CNC
machining and/or CNC programming experience in a heavy
manufacturing environment is preferred. Strong knowledge of CAD
software, preferably in Siemens NX and SurfCAM. Ability to read and
interpret technical drawings. Skilled in creating CAD models from
drawings and modifying existing model features. Proficiency in
reading work orders and blueprints is desirable. Computer literacy,
including Microsoft Office applications. Excellent interpersonal,
written, and verbal communication skills. Highly responsible,
attentive, and detail-oriented. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Prolonged periods
of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Occasional
standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or climbing. Must
be able to lift or handle up to 25 pounds at times. Use hands to
finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Specific
vision abilities required by this job include close vision,
distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception
and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel may be required
which includes walking, standing, sitting and driving from short to
