Overview The Senior Controls Specialist is responsible for
supporting the design, planning, and maintenance of plant
instrumentation and control systems. This role provides technical
leadership for automation equipment, control logic, safety systems,
and instrumentation performance. The position works closely with
operations, maintenance, and technical teams to improve system
reliability, ensure accurate documentation, and support both
day-to-day troubleshooting and long-term project work. This role
includes supervisory responsibility and reports to the Technical
Engineering Manager. Key Responsibilities Collaborates with
maintenance, operations, and engineering teams to support equipment
reliability objectives. Provides daily technical assistance to
address design issues, maintenance needs, and operational
challenges. Oversees instrumentation, automation, and control
systems including troubleshooting, programming updates, and
documentation. Ensures accuracy of schematics, loop sheets,
interlock diagrams, and related control documentation. Maintains
engineering files, updates calibration and PM procedures, and
analyzes process data for performance insights. Prepares and
submits required records to meet operational and regulatory
standards. Participates in front-end engineering design activities
and contributes to project planning and execution. Supports safety
processes including participation in hazard reviews, SIL
evaluations, and functional safety planning. Contributes to
environmental and safety initiatives and ensures compliance with
applicable regulations. Provides support for capital projects,
process improvements, and scheduled shutdown activities. Leads
investigations into instrumentation or control-related failures and
develops corrective actions. Provides field oversight during
critical work and assists with troubleshooting recurring
instrumentation Qualifications Bachelors degree in electrical
engineering or a related discipline. Several years of experience in
instrumentation and control systems within an industrial or
manufacturing environment, preferably chemical processing.
Experience working with control systems, safety instrumented
systems, and instrumentation hardware. Functional safety training
or certification is preferred. Experience with project planning,
budgeting, or contractor coordination is beneficial. Knowledge of
compressor controls, DCS, PLC, HMI, historian systems, and
industrial networking. Understanding of instrumentation principles
including valves, transmitters, analyzers, and measurement
technologies. Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, schematics,
wiring diagrams, and technical manuals. Strong troubleshooting
skills in both instrumentation and control logic. Familiarity with
smart instrumentation, pneumatic systems, and hydraulic components.
Knowledge of process safety concepts and general process control.
Experience with root cause analysis and reliability methodologies.
