The Samuel Ginn College of Engineering at Auburn University invites
applications for the Director of the Center for Inclusive
Engineering Excellence (CI2E). The CI2E provides support for
engineering students, especially those from underrepresented
populations, by assisting with the transition of these students
into college, and their persistence to degree completion and
graduation. Examples of the programmatic support for the students
include academic support, mentoring, professional development, and
a supportive community. Since the start of its roots as Minority
Engineering program in 1997, the center continues to have strong
corporate engagement that provides financial resources as well as
opportunities for student-alumni interactions.
The Director will be expected to lead the center to continue to
recruit, retain, and graduate academically qualified students from
underrepresented populations in close collaboration with the
college's existing student services partners, while expanding the
scope to more broadly promote inclusive engineering excellence.
Responsibilities include representing Auburn University and the
Samuel Ginn College of Engineering to both internal and external
entities, leading and guiding the faculty, staff, students, and
alumni involved in the program, preparing strategies and budgets
for program success and development, building relationships with
corporate, professional, and affinity group partners, and fostering
collaborative and innovative strategies to expand the program's
reach and enhance its impact. The Director will collaborate closely
with faculty and staff in the college's existing student services
partners to customize and elevate academic support, career
development, and other services tailored to the needs of
underrepresented student populations.
The Director will report to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate
Studies and serve as a member of the College of Engineering Dean's
leadership team. The Director will lead a staff of four
coordinators and administrators in the daily operation of the
program. Faculty status is negotiable within the allowable position
title requirements. The successful candidate will be appointed as a
tenure-track faculty member, non tenure-track faculty member or a
non-tenured Professor of Practice commensurate with background,
qualifications, and experience.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering, education, counseling, business
or related area at the time employment begins; (b) experience in
engineering, academic or corporate settings; demonstrated
commitment and desire to help underrepresented young people develop
and succeed; (d) abilities in strategic planning and relationship
building; (e) ability to follow through on strategies and achieve
results by delivering on individual commitments and directing the
work of others; (f) excellent written and interpersonal
communication skills, and (a) commitment to collaborative
leadership.
The selected candidate must meet eligibility requirements to work
in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to
begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of
employment. The selected candidate must possess excellent written
and interpersonal communication skills.
Desired Qualifications
Doctoral or Master's degree in engineering, education, or related
area; experience in engineering or corporate settings;
administrative experience in higher education, particularly in
matters related to college-student retention and success; expertise
in managing organizations, projects, and financial
matters;expertise in managing organizations, projects, and
financial matters; administrative experience in deploying programs
that drive successful outcomes in diversity, equity, and inclusion;
administrative experience in higher education, particularly in
matters related to underrepresented college-student retention and
success; experience with educational research or teaching; success
in fundraising
