The Department of Human Development and Family Science (HDFS),
through a partnership with the Department of Defense (DoD) and the
US Department of Agriculture - National Institute of Food and
Agriculture (USDA/NIFA), is seeking candidates for the position of
Research Assistant I/II or Research Associate I/II to support the
work of Military REACH.
Military REACH provides high-quality resources to the DoD in the
form of research and professional development tools across the
spectrum of family support, resilience, and readiness. In
collaboration with the larger research team, this individual will
assist and contribute in the creation of research products (e.g.,
research summaries, annotated bibliographies, comprehensive
reports) that are easy to read for diverse audiences and focus on
the translation of science into application. Additionally, this
position will have an outreach component, such that this individual
will be actively engaged in promoting access to military family
research through our online library, social media, and other

This individual will assist the Military REACH research team in
planning, developing, and completing research reports, specifically
brief summaries and comprehensive reviews of the literature. This
person will also play an integral role in ensuring that our
research products are publicly available to a wide range of
audiences (e.g., helping professionals, policy makers, military
leadership, military families). This outreach work includes working
with our web development team to make sure our online library is
up-to-date and creating engaging content that conveys scientific
findings in everyday language.
This position is currently a one-year position but may be extended
annually dependent on continued grant funding and performance.

The person in this role will …
- Search through empirical research from several disciplines (e.g.,
family science, psychology, sociology, communications) to find
studies related to the well-being of military families, keep clear
records of identified research, and manage databases to store the
- Work collaboratively with the larger research team to assist in
the management of research summaries, which includes coordinating
with project faculty, graduate students, copy editors, and the
design team, assigning tasks to those involved in the writing
process, and writing, reviewing, and editing research products as
- Assist in the development of research reports by delegating tasks
to the research team, tracking the progress of each report,
conducting literature reviews, and synthesizing published research
pertaining to the well-being of military families as needed.
- Assist in translating research into practical tools and
information for our key stakeholders (e.g., social media,
newsletters, families page).
- Act as the liaison between the research-focused graduate students
and the Principle Investigators/Co-Investigators.
- Coordinate with the web development team to ensure research
products are in our online repository.
Entry into the applicant pool requires a Bachelor's or Master's
degree from an accredited institution in Human Development/Family
Science, Communications, Organizational Management, Public
Relations, Public Health, Public Administration, Health Services
Administration, or a relevant discipline appropriate to the
position (focus related to the program); and training in the
design, implementation, delivery, and management of educational
programs/services. An understanding of effective communication
concepts; leadership skills to manage a diverse, collaborative team
and demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills;
proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher; and
proficiency in the operation of office equipment and search engines
are also required.
