The ideal candidate is self-motivated, metrics driven, and possesses an innate ability to get things done. As a Development Professional, you will have the opportunity to travel and conduct face-to-face visits with HCOB Alumni and Supporters. This position helps connect these individuals back to the College and University in a philanthropic way that is meaningful to them, while making an everlasting impact at Auburn University. This position is responsible for the qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift prospects. This position will lead and manage direct reports.

Essential Functions

  • Identifies potential major giving prospects for cultivations through research, initial contact ratings, peer reviews, and other relevant resources.
  • Solicits gifts through person-to-person visits, group presentations, and/or phone calls.
  • Provides stewardship to include acknowledging and showing gratitude for donating either by letter, phone call, and/or participating in/attending events and functions for donors.
  • Updates and informs supervisors and other staff of goal status, new plans, project proposals, and ensures that a cooperative team effort is made to meet goals and objectives.
  • Meet with advancement colleagues and university partners, including athletics, to discuss major donor prospects and strategy.
  • Complete and file reports of all contacts promptly through Auburn University Advancement systems and processes.
  • May develop campaigns and/or presentations proposals related to funding priorities to keep top prospects informed, interested, involved, and to meet advancement goals and objectives.
  • Secures an appropriate level of private support in relationship to goals.
  • The nature of this role is highly externally focused, requiring frequent travel and meetings on and off campus during regular and non-traditional business hours, and is therefore expected to operate with high levels of autonomy. Minimum Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications Development Officer III ($64,700 - $116,500)
    Bachelor's degree plus 6 years of experience in fundraising, marketing, sales, and/or public relations

    Senior Major Gifts Officer ($82,600-$156,900)Bachelor's degree plus 7 ormore years of gift solicitation experience, development, fundraising, or marketing with at least 2 or more years in a higher education setting.

    Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications

    Minimum Skills and Abilities
    • A demonstrated record of successful major gift solicitations and experience designing and executing donor identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies.
    • Proven ability to communicate effectively and persuasively with a diverse client base.
    • Experience calling, conducting face-to-face appointments, managing relationships, creating, and presenting proposals, and other fundamental elements of client/donor relationship or sales-related activities.
    • Demonstrated communications and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on engaged listening, and success working in a team setting.
    • A valid motor vehicle operator's license with an acceptable driving record
    • Must be able and willing to work some weekends, evenings, and to travel.

      • Previous fundraising experience with an emphasis on building a portfolio of donors or clients and closing gifts or completing a sales cycle
      • Ability to prioritize and organize complex projects and plans to deliver results
      • Ability to meet deadlines and follow through on projects
      • Solid understanding of development techniques and systems based on past performance
      • Passion and enthusiasm for the university, the mission of the foundation and assigned college unit
